This piece is built on a scale that can be described in a number of ways. A few favorites are D minor super-Lydian and Hungarian minor flat 7.
 
Within the piece, there are melodic and rhythmic fragments from popular meme songs, including "All-Star" by Smash Mouth and "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley. 
 
The title was created using an extended play on words. The main rhythmic motifs of section A reminded me of the Habanera from Carmen. Habanera reminded me of habanero peppers, which are of the taxonomical genus capsicum. The word unicum derives from the Latin word for "unique," and thus this piece has become "Capsicum unicum", my special pepper song.
